Spring signifies new beginnings..

and in Chinese Medicine, it's associated with the element of wood, symbolizing growth, fresh energy, and new opportunities. Embracing this spirit, I've accepted a new opportunity starting June 1st: taking over Amie Brooks (Blue Soulspace) acupuncture practice in Park City, UT. While I'll continue serving patients in Salt Lake City on Fridays and one Saturday a month at my current practice inside Pain Free Acupuncture, my scheduling system will transition to my Park City location on May 19th. If you'd like to book an appointment with me in Salt Lake after that date, please reach out via text or phone call.

Reflecting on the theme of spring and the wood element, the liver, a vital organ in Chinese Medicine, is associated with this season. The liver plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy metabolism, detoxification, circulation, and overall well-being, aligning with the themes of renewal and growth in spring. Foods with bitter and sour tastes are beneficial for the liver, so incorporating fresh, leafy greens and sprouts like asparagus, kale, spinach, swiss chard, collard, and dandelion greens into your diet can support liver health, thanks to their chlorophyll content, which aids in cleansing and rejuvenating the liver.

Ways to full embrace the energy of spring:

  • Spend more time outdoors

  • Engage in physical activity

  • Soak up sunlight

  • Connect with nature by getting your hands in the soil or walk barefoot on the earth

  • Declutter any aspects of your life - whether physical or mental - that feel stagnant.

Asparagus with Ginger, Garlic, and Scallion Recipe:

Preheat the broiler to low, then toss a pound of asparagus with 1 tablespoon of avocado oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, tamari sauce, and pepper in a bowl. Arrange the coated asparagus on a baking sheet and broil for 5-7 minutes per side or until lightly cooked. Enjoy hot.

If you're seeking support during this transition or assistance with anything else, whether it's through acupuncture or otherwise, please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm here to help you navigate this change of energy and support you on your journey.

Love,

Dr. Kallie Harrison DACM, LAc, LMT, RN
